A Showing Hearts Foundation Program
Heart for the Community
Our direct outreach across Queens: food drives, clothing drives, toy drives, giveaways, and giving back on the blocks where our neighbors live. No applications, no red tape. We show up with what people need.
About the Program
Heart for the Community is the part of our work with no curriculum and no cohort. It’s the giving back. When a family needs groceries, when kids need coats before winter, when a block needs hands on a Saturday morning, this is the arm that answers.
It runs on donated goods, sponsors, and volunteers, and it has been the constant underneath everything else we do since the Foundation started. It’s the plainest expression of why we’re here: it’s because we care.
See It In Action
Our 2026 beautification day in Hollis: the sixth year neighbors, volunteers, and partners have turned out for the same block.
What We Do
The specifics change with the season and with what the community asks for. The pattern doesn’t.
Food Drives & Meals
Groceries, pantry stock, and hot meals for neighbors and families going through a hard stretch, including feeding people experiencing homelessness.
Clothing & Coat Drives
Seasonal coat and clothing collections that put warm layers on families before the cold sets in, and keep our closets stocked year-round.
Toy Drives & Holiday Giveaways
Our Coalition Kids holiday toy drive has handed out hundreds of toys at a time to children in the community and in local shelters.
Community Giveaways
Pop-up giveaways of essentials such as school supplies, hygiene items, and household goods, brought directly to the blocks that need them.
Beautification Projects
Neighbors, volunteers, and partners out on the same block with paint, plants, and cleanup gear. Our Hollis beautification project has run for six years running.
Disaster & Crisis Response
When a community outside ours gets hit, we mobilize. That has meant delivering over 150,000 bottles of water and supplies to Flint, Michigan.

No Barriers
Show up, take what you need
We don’t means-test our neighbors. There’s no income verification, no paperwork, and no question about whether you deserve a coat. If you’re at the event and you need what we brought, it’s yours.
For year-round clothing and household essentials, this work runs alongside Queens Community Closets, our dedicated pop-up closet program.
Get Involved
Every coat, toy, and box of groceries came from somebody. There are four easy ways to be that somebody.
Donate Goods
Coats, toys, non-perishables, school supplies, and household essentials all go straight back out to families.
Arrange a drop-offGive
A donation buys what the drives don't cover: the turkeys, the storage, the truck, the gaps.
Donate nowVolunteer
Sorting, packing, setup, and handing things out. Most of what we do runs on neighbors who showed up.
