Queens Community Closets Launch.

Roy Wilkins Park filled with generosity, connection, and hope as we launched the Queens Community Closets coalition, a new alliance making sure resources reach the families of Southeast Queens.

Families stopped by to receive free clothing, household essentials, food, baby items, and cribs. Just as importantly, they connected with organizations offering career support, health resources, and family services long after the tables get packed away. Neighbors of every age walked out with more than groceries. They walked out with a network.

"I see myself in these younger children. I see my mom in a lot of these women. That's why I'm here."

Health screenings, financial guidance, foster-care support, fire safety, and family services, all sat side by side under one roof.

Via Whole You NYC. Food, housing, transportation, care management.

Primerica Financial Services
Steps toward protection, debt-free living & independence.

Nourishing Hearts
Support for foster & at-risk youth, foster families, and future fosters.

FDNY Fire Safety Unit
Free smoke detectors installed by retired firefighters.

♥

COPE
Community outreach connecting families to essential programs.

♥

Health & Wellness Services (HWS)
Whole-person wellness support for individuals & families.

Oak Street Health
Preventive & primary healthcare for older adults on Medicare.

Senator Comrie and his team helped secure many of the resources and vendors that filled the park.

The event was made possible by a coalition led by Showing Hearts and Queens Community Closets, with support from State Senator Leroy Comrie and his team, representing the 14th Senate District in Southeast Queens.

Standing in the middle of his district at Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans, Senator Comrie described a day built around "a coalition of people that are giving away resources" to young parents and residents of all ages. Everything from food to cribs, plus information and opportunities to link up with city and state agencies on health and personal concerns.
